Episode Review: Tokyo Ghoul: re Episode Three – Sasaki Haise’s Drag Race

By trying to do too much at once, this week’s episode of Tokyo Ghoul: re suffers from a lack of cohesion. Although each part of the grander puzzle is interesting on its own, the way the pieces are jammed together without fitting into their own place makes it so that it’s hard to appreciate the drips of information that are being fed to us. There has to be a way of covering this section of the story more elegantly. At least we get to see a few more familiar faces even though they don’t quite get a chance to shine.

Episode Review: Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Episode Three – We Totally Have Time For Twelve Minutes Of Flashbacks!

This week, Legend of the Galatic Heroes: Die Neue These gives us the first episode fully devoted to developing the backstories of both the main characters on the Imperial side, as well as the universe at large. While this does help solve some of the issues I have had with Die Neue These‘s minimal attempts to endear you to the characters thus far, there are several ways that they could have saved precious time while still portraying the events clearly and giving the viewer a full understanding of the characters’ motivations.

Manga Monday – New and Notable 09/04/18 – 15/04/18

This week on Manga Monday, I look into the first volumes of Boarding School Juliet, The Elder Sister-like One, and Monster Tamer Girls! It’s a surprisingly good release week and I’m only disappointed that I couldn’t get to everything that came out. Seriously, there were at least seven brand new series this week. Why would they do that to me?

Spring 2018 Weekly Roundup: Week Two – I Am Thou, Thou Art Tired

So we’re already into the second week of Spring anime! After all those First Impressions posts (which I kinda fell down on towards the end… there’s so much stuff and I got sick halfway through the first week!) I already feel exhausted. To keep myself from watching too much stuff, I need to be more picky about what I will and will not continue. I’ve already dropped a handful of series that showed promise in their first episode due to not delivering fast enough, and I expect that to continue over the next couple of weeks. For brevity, I haven’t included anything where only the first episode is out, because I have already covered those in excruciating detail!

Episode Review: Hinamatsuri Episode Two – My Daughter Has Better Game With The Hostesses Than I Do

Episode two of Hinamatsuri widens its focus from Hina and Nitta and introduces us to more of its cast. In doing so, we learn more about the two main characters’ lives and how they have changed since they first met each other. Although it doesn’t do much to establish a main plotline, this episode still delivers two enjoyable vignettes that are just as fun as the one before it.

After getting dumped by her hot normie boyfriend, yaoi otaku Narumi Momose runs away and changes jobs to hide her shame. What were the chances that her childhood friend and hardcore game otaku, Hirotaka Nifuji, would be working there as well? The two spend their days working together at the office and their nights at the bar, drinking beer, eating meat and grinding for rare materials. Narumi is desperate for a boyfriend, but never considered the idea of dating a fellow otaku. Will Hirotaka’s offer change her mind?

Through the use of a discreet mouthpiece called an SCM, anybody can turn a person into their slave through defeating them in a game. The only way for the slave to be freed is for their master to release them. Eia, a young woman described as cold and distant by her peers, first meets Yuuga Ohta when he breaks up with her best friend. The two instantly form a connection, and Yuuga, who wishes to participate in high stakes battles with other SCM users, confides in Eia, asking her to be his partner and to promise to defeat his captor if he is ever enslaved while participating in these dangerous games. Although Yuuga could see a part of Eia that nobody else could, she would soon come to regret meeting him with all of her heart.
